Empowering Women From Ethnic Minorities Through Social Enterprise

2018-1-IE01-KA204-038781

Erasmus+ project “Empowering Women from Ethnic Minorities through Social Enterprise” in Ireland, Italy, Greece, United Kingdom, Türkiye, Germany and Lithuania.

The EMwoSE project (“Empowering Women from Ethnic Minorities through Social Enterprise”), supported by Erasmus+, addresses the underrepresentation of women—especially from ethnic minorities—in the labor market and entrepreneurship. Although women make up half of the global population, they are significantly underrepresented in business activities.

EMwoSE will produce four major outputs, including a storytelling library and training modules, based on research conducted across the participating countries to identify barriers and needs. The ultimate goal is to increase employment and engagement of ethnic minority women in the social enterprise sector.

If you have any questions regarding the project, please contact us by e-mail projects@inovacijubiuras.lt

Key Actions include:

  • Highlighting successful female entrepreneurs as role models.

  • Developing culturally sensitive training methods.

  • Providing open-access online educational resources.

SENpower

Empowering Young Adult Learners with Special Educational Needs

Project Number: 2017-1-PT01-KA204-035904

Erasmus+ project “Empowering Young Adult Learners with Special Educational Needs” in  Portugal, Cyprus, Lithuania, Italy and Spain.

According to a report from the European Commission, there is a strong agreement in Europe about the importance of inclusive educaiton for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in mainstream schools. However, the report finds that there is a lack of sharing best practices regarding support for these children at the European level.

Offical statistcis indicate that at least 15.4% of students have special educational needs, which include various learning difficulties and disabilities. These challenges range from Severe and Complex learning difficluties to Fiftedness, with many children facing specific issues like Dislexia, Dysprazia, Dyscalculia, ADD, and ADHD. As more students develop special educational needs, the need for tailored educational approaches becomes clear.

In the context of high unemployment rates ,particularly among young people, there is a push from national governments and the European Union to strengthen entrepreneurial skills as a way to create hobs and wealth. The Entrepreneurship 2020 Action Plan emphasizes the need for entrepreneurial education as a priority.

Despite entrepreneurship has been integrated into the curricula of many European countries, there is no comprehensive study on how to effectively teach this subject to students with SEN. As a result, more than 156 of the student population may miss out on valuable entrepreneurship education tailored to their learning styles. Notably, many students with SEN have high IQs and possess skills important for entrepreneurship, such as creativity and problem-solving.

The SENpower project aims to bridge this gap by empowering youths with SEN and bringing the idea of entrepreneurship closer to them. Its goals include developing educators’ skills, enhancing learning opportunities tailored to individual needs, and promoting social inclusion and entrepreneurship education for these young adults. The project will generate training guides for SEN students, organize conferences and workshops, and create an online hub for information and support, aiming for significant impact at both national and European levels.

Internationalising Trading For Social Enterprise Sustanability and Education

Project Number: 2017-1-UK01-KA203-036607

Erasmus+ project “Internationalising Trading for Social Enterprise Sustainability and Education” in United Kingdom, Ireland, Greece, Italy, Latvia and Lithuania.

This strategic partnership is focused on improving education and training practices. It targets individuals looking to gain knowledge about the internationalization of social enterprises or those already involved in such organizations who want to enhance their ability to trade goods and services internationally, which will help their sustainability.

The project’s outcomes will benefit the social enterprise sector at various levels, including local, regional, national, and international.

A survey by the British Council and Social Enterprise in 2014 highlighted different needs in the export market for social enterprises and indicated a lack of support for many exporters. Consequently, the project aims to conduct a thorough study with EU partners to understand why social enterprises engage in international trade and identify barriers supports involved. Key factors to be examined include reasons for expanding abroad, timing and entry strategies, and locations chosen.

Project objectives include developing an e-framework that identifies enablers and barriers to international trade, mapping current support mechanisms available to social enterprises, creating infographic and video case studies, and producing educational materials about trading practices and sustainability. Activities will include hosting conferences, developing training frameworks, publishing reports on support mechanisms, and providing vocational training. The work will also produce visual materials highlighting the experiences of social enterprises engaged in inernational trading.

GERMT

Gaining Experience In The European Union’s Refugee Migration Problem Issues, Case Studies and Integration Tools Development

Project Number: 577034

Erasmus+ project “Gaining experience in the European Union’s refugee migration problem issues, case studies and integration tools development (GERMT)” in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

This project was started in response to the current and future situations regarding refugee movements from Middle Eastern and African countries to Europe. The Baltic countries Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania have little experience in this area, as they began to accept their first refugee families only in early 2016.

The unexpected and large-scale refugee flow due to the Syrian war has left many Euopean countries struggling to integrate newcomers into local cultures. To avoid making the same mistakes, this project aims to prepare the Baltic countries for future challenges.

The main goal of the project is to gain the necessary knowledge and experience for the smooth integration of refugees into local societies through planned activities.

There are also several specific objectives:

  1. Understanding the cultural differences between islamic and Christian societies, such as language, clothing, food, and ehtics, which will be addressed during a visit to Croatia.
  2. Analyzing current local methods for integrating refugees by visiting refugee centers in each participating country and comparing their systems.
  3. Building and expanding a network of local representatives who can share experiences in refugee integration through an informal communication network that will grow over time.

SEDETT

Social Enterprise Development, Education and Training Tools

Project Number: 2016-1-UK01-KA203-02456

Erasmus+ project “Social Enterprise Development, Education and Training Tools (SEDETT)” in United Kingdom, Ireland, Poland, Romania, Lithuania, Italy and Spain.

Aimed at improving education and training for people involved in social enterprises (S.E.). This project, led by Glyndwr University in Wales, involves various partners from across Europe, including colleges and training agencies from countries like Ireland, Poland, Romania, Lithuania, Italy, and Spain. The initiative seeks to enhance the skill and capacities of the social enterprise sector at multiple levels: organizational, local, regional, national, and European.

Successful social enterprises in more developed parts of Europe have improved their organizational capacity and being able to attract investment. The focus must shift from merely seeking grants to demonstrating the impact of social enterprises, which will help them attract investors. Innovative solution are necessary for addressing social issues and attracting investors, which requires strong leadership and management.

In northern, central, and eastern Europem the concept of social enterprise is less recognized, especially as a means to combat youth unemployment and social exclusion. To address this gap, the project aims to create blended learning tools (SEDETT) to help social entrepreneurs assess their needs and provide resources for educators. These tools will be accessible and include an e-tool for identifying effective educational methods.

The target audience includes students, educators, research centers, and social enterprises looking to improve thir skills. The short-term goal is to build capacity in the social enterprise sector across Europe. The project aligns with the EU’s Education and Training Strategy 2020, which focuses on improving the quality of educationrelated to social enterprise and fostering lifelong learning and cross-border mobility. Overall, SEDETT aims to enhance education through technology and presonalized learning experiences.

Competition “Create County”

Competition, Create County

2014-1-LV02-KA205-000290

Erasmus+ project “Competition, Create Country” in Latvia and Lithuania.

“Create for the Region” is a cross-border entrepreneurship competition aimed at Latvian and Lithuanian students, designed to foster practical business experience, personal responsibility, and regional development. The competition encourages university support and media attention while helping students improve their future career prospects.

The project’s long-term vision is to become a European-wide platform for mobilizing youth creativity and university resources to generate economic value. It promotes international collaboration, with students forming cross-border teams to build globally relevant companies using local strengths.

The project is structured in three phases:

  • Team application and selection (3–6 months)
  • Business plan development
  • Implementation of ideas (1–2 years), potentially leading to real startups or contributions to existing businesses.

The first pilot includes 200 students from 20 universities across 30 regions in Latvia and Lithuania. Organizers provide support and guidance but leave training to universities. By the end, the project aims to create 30 jobs, 15 companies, and generate €1 million in business investments.

The medium-term goal is for the project to become financially independent and active in at least 10 EU countries, offering a sustainable solution to local economic challenges by harnessing student energy and innovation.
