Erasmus+ project “Neet Idea” in Lithuania, Estonia, Turkey, Ireland, Slovakia and Belgium.
Supporting Digital Native NEETs Back to Mainstream Education, Training and Employment:
A large number of younger adults known as NEETS – not in education, employment, or training – are present in all EU Member States, often on the fringes of society and the economy. Many NEETS lack the qualifications needed for further education due to ineffective education impacting their essential employment skills. Many come from disadvantaged backgrounds but are digital natives, proficient in digital and social media. This digital expertise can help them re-engage if the right educational support is offered.
The project partners have created a currriculum based on digital activites using smartphones to help develop the skills and attitudes needed for personal growth. The Erasmus+ project “Supporting Digital Native NEETs Back to Mainstream Education, Training and Employment” (NEET IDEA) focuses on training these individuals to create digital media content. Participants learn to produce short films solely with their smartphones.
The training involves forming small teams to produce, edit, and market the films, developing various skills along the way. These include research skills for film concepts, literacy for script writing, numeracy for budgeting, a range of digital skills for production, teamwork for collaboration, interpersonal skills for engagement, and planning skills for managing permissions. NEET IDEA aims to build key skills for inclusion, self-confidence, and teamwork among NEETS.
